Palatine Hill and Museum

Palatine Hill became the seat of power in Rome - the Imperial Palace was built here and many Emperors had homes on the hill.  It is also the hill where Romulus and Remus were found at it's base by the She-Wolf who nursed them after they had been cast out by their real parents (Mars and a vestal virgin....).  Romulus founded Rome on this hill as well, after he killed Remus so he alone could found the city!  It provides some amazing views of the city from high atop itself - you can see the Coliseum, St. Peter's Basilica, the Roman Forum at it's base, the Circus Maximus.  There were some beautiful gardens here and you can see some orange trees left from them - the smell of the oranges was delicious!  The picture of the boat shaped object shows a fountain that would have been visible from the Palace and the last picture is of a water catching system that was used to collect rain water.
