This forum along the banks of the Tiber River is one of the oldest still around - from the republican era of Rome!  It was an animal market and has survived from the 4th century since it's temples were converted to churches.  The Arch of Janus (above) is a road junction and has arches on all 4 sides - vendors used to set up their stalls under it for shade.  Below are the Temple of Hercules (round) and the Temple of Portunus - obviously the god of ports!
