Arch of Constantine

Built for Emperor Constantine to celebrate his victory over his co-emperor, Maxentius, in the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, this was the biggest triumphal arch we saw.  Constantine gave credit to his victory to a vision he had before the battle of Christ - he legalized Christianity at that point to give credit where credit was due.  Unfortunately he didn't really seem to get the point of Christianity - to build his arch he took adornments from many other monuments around Rome so the best of each could be used to celebrate his victory.....  Oh, well - at least he tried!
