Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk

The Church of Our Lady (that's what it says up there) was built in the 13th century - the tower that is visible all over town (see Around the Town for pictures!) is 400 feet/122 metres high!  This church is also one of the few we have been in where you can really look at the different levels of the church as it was built and see the craftmanship - unfortunately, churches are very dark and hard to get good pictures in so that is hard to share with you.

Another "claim to fame" for this church - it hold Michelangelo's Madonna and Child sculpture - the only one of his works to leave Italy during his lifetime.  He has sculpted it for a cathedral in Siena, but then they were not able to pay him when it was done, so a wealthy Brugge merchant purchased it and brought it here.
